Helen Scholfield—A “scrap” history of patchwork and quilting
Yankalilla Uniting Church Hall
Helen’s fascinating presentation began with a brief history of quilting and patch work. She described how indigenous women made patchwork clothing from possum skins while settlers either produced decorative quilting and patchwork or made garments and other textiles from old clothing, rugs, wheat and chaff bags. The Inman Quilters first met at the Inman Valley Uniting Church Hall on 4 March 2003. Over the years they have raised considerable funds for charities and gifted over 300 quilts, particularly to those in hardship or ill. Today membership is about 30 to 40 members, and they meet at the Inman Valley Memorial Hall. The Hall will host an exhibition of their work on 11 - 12 March 2023.
