Ramindjeri/ Ngarrindjeri living culture project
Eddy Mignanelli

General meeting
13 April 2026

Yankalilla Library Meeting Room

YDHS member Eddy Mignanelli displayed and explained the poster which he produced during his three-year Ramindjeri/ Ngarrindjeri living culture research.

Eddy had the idea for the project as he was looking through his extensive collection of historic photographs of Myponga and Victor Harbor. The Victor Harbor R—7 school sponsored the project which commenced in 2018. Uncle Moogy Sumner, Uncle Arch Kartinyeri and the late Uncle Tom Trevorrow, prominent Ramindjeri/ Ngarrindjeri elders approved and guided the project, which was also supported by the Victor Harbor Council, in particular the then Mayor Graham. Eddy also acknowledged the help of the late Ron Blum with photo resizing and placement.

Photos and images included a map of the area printed in The Observer in 1919 and old photos of Granite Island, The Bluff and the Canoe Tree near Strathalbyn. There are several photos of Aboriginal campsites in the region and a weaving mat and a spear belonging to elder Uncle Tom are also depicted.

Many members of the audience took the opportunity to have a close look at the information display over supper.

Yankalilla & District Historical Society supports the cultural, spiritual, ecological and economic regeneration of the Aboriginal peoples of this place assisted by the actions and power of individuals, organisations and governments.
