8555 Main South Rd, Delamere
Delamere
This house was built about 1862 but who lived in it in the early years is unclear. The land was owned by James Cole from 1865 until his death in 1872, after which it became the property of his widow Ann Cole. During this period the house was probably rented out or occupied by members of the Cole family.
In 1896 Ann's daughter, Elizabeth Williss, who had been running the post office from the house next door (8557 Main South Rd) since the death of her husband two years earlier, moved into this house and continued with the post office duties. Thus this was the second post office at Delamere. Elizabeth Williss ran the post office from here until the 1920s. The house was then occupied by various members of the Cole family until it was sold to Clifford Rex Morris in 1951.
