Agricultural Hall

Main South Rd, Yankalilla

Agricultural shows had been held in various locations since the mid 1850s, but it was not until 1887 that a permanent show ground site was acquired by the newly formed Yankalilla, Rapid Bay and Myponga Agricultural and Horticultural Society. The four-acre site was soon fenced by volunteers and the Ladies Committee guaranteed to raise one hundred and fifty pounds towards the cost of a stone building on the property. Loans were also obtained.

In July 1887 the Show was held on its own ground, although the Hall was still unfinished, and was not completed for another two years. In 1900 the Supper Room was built, the builder being George Roads. During 1952 to 1954 the hall was extended by the addition on a foyer, gallery, cloak room and cinema projection rooms, the builders being R.J. Chenoweth and C. Roads.
