Bible Christian Manse
121 Main South Rd, Yankalilla
This was the manse for the Bible Christian minister and was built by 1862, when it was being rented from Thomas Willson by Rev Hodge. At that time the Bible Christian church was located next to Bungala House. This original chapel was found to be too small and so land was bought from Willson and a new church (the current Uniting Church) was built in 1878.
The manse was occupied by a series of Bible Christian ministers: Hodge, Counter, Hillman, Forster (or Foster), Mason, Trewin, Lake, Lang (or Land), Tresise (or Tresize), Shaply (or Shapely), Ashton, Holmes, Batton and Williams. In 1900 the Bible Christian, Wesleyan and Primitive Methodists combined to form the Methodist Church, and as there was also a Wesleyan manse in Yankalilla, the Bible Christian manse became superfluous and was rented out and eventually sold in 1928.
