Christ Church Cemetery

Glebe St, Yankalilla

Christ Church Anglican Cemetery was established by Rev Charles William Morse in 1873. The first burial in the cemetery was that of Sarah Hibbert, the wife of Reuban James Hibbert, who was the publican of the Yankalilla Hotel from 1855 to 1864. The Hibberts were great supporters of Christ Church, and Sarah Hibbert was superintendent of the Sunday School. When she died on 29-11-1872 she was buried in the Yankalilla Public Cemetery, but once the Anglican cemetery was established she was re-interred there.

Another reinterment was that of Sarah Norman, the mother of Robert Norman and Anna Herbert. She died in 1854 and was buried in the grounds of Wissanger, the home of Septimane and Anna Herbert. Septimane and Anna were later also buried in this cemetery. Other notable burials were Fred Malcolm Graham of Bungala House (buried in the Graham crypt), and Archdeacon and Mrs Morse.
