Christ Church Hall

130 Main South Road, Yankalilla

State Heritage Place No 14065

Christ Church Hall was originally a day school and teacher's residence. The school was established in 1869 by Rev Charles William Morse (later Archdeacon Morse) and was held in a cottage in Main Street Yankalilla. This cottage soon became too small and so a block of land next to the church was bought from the Roads family. The school building was built in 1871 and opened in May 1872. A long list of teachers served the school over the years, including Lucy Webb, the niece of Mrs Morse and the author of a series of articles called Yankalilla Yarns, which were published in the newspapers in the 1920s. The school continued until the end of 1926, when it was closed due to lack of funds to pay the teacher's salary.

In recent years the school room has been used as the church hall, while the teacher's residence has been used for various purposes such as meeting rooms and the church office.
