Delamere School

4 Cole Rd, Delamere

The land for the Delamere school was donated by James Collins in 1863. The foundation stone was laid by Mrs Collins and on 20 October 1866, and the school was completed by June 1867. It was originally named the Glenburn school, as that was the name of the area at that time, but was later changed to the Delamere School. The first teacher was Charles Stockbridge. A teacher's residence was built near the school in 1886.

The school operated successfully for over one hundred years. In 1980 a change was made: students in grades 4 to 7 attended the Delamere school, while students in grades 1,2, and 3 attended Rapid Bay school. Then in 1990 all the students were transferred to the Rapid Bay school and the Delamere School was closed. The school is near the corner of Cole Rd and Main South Rd, but it is partly hidden by the Trading Post building.
