Dunstall cottage
Corner of Main South Road and Williss Drive, Normanville
The land where this cottage stands was originally part of the main road. When the bridge across the Bungala River was built in 1869 the road was re-aligned and the cottage land became an unused road reserve. This land was purchased by John Fowler in 1871. Fowler moved to Yankalilla about 1873 and he subsequently sold the land to William Mitchell (owner of the Normanville Hotel) in 1884.
The cottage was probably built about 1886 by William Mitchell. Mitchell rented the cottage to various people. William Theophilus Caudle and his wife Mary Adah (nee Newbold) are thought to have moved into the cottage about 1890. It was possibly rented later to the Chenoweth family. Then in 1919 Guy Percival Dunstall and his bride Mildred (Millie) moved into the cottage, renting it at first, but buying it in 1929. Here they raised a family of ten children. Mildred died in 1955 and Guy sold the cottage in 1959 to John Allen Morgan.
