RSL Hall

18 Main South Rd, Normanville

The RSL Hall was originally a Wesleyan chapel. The land was granted to Nelson Leak on 28 July 1851, and in early 1854 he sold part of this section to the Wesleyan church for £10.

Leak was a stonemason and he built the church himself for about two-thirds of the current price according to a report in the Register newspaper at the time. The foundation stone was laid on 2 March 1854 and the chapel was completed by November that year. The newspaper report stated that 'the building, which is exceedingly neat, measures 30 feet by 18 feet in the clear, and will cost when complete, with furniture, about £310 'a small sum for so good a building'.

Services in the church ceased in July 1945, recommenced in November 1947, and finally concluded in October 1949. The church was sold to the Yankalilla Branch of the RSL in 1952 for £900.
