Spring Grove 1
80 Bullaparinga Cres, Delamere
Spring Grove was the name George Williss gave to the cottage he built about 1856. George, his second wife Elizabeth, and two children had arrived in South Australia on the Buckinghamshire in 1839. George, Elizabeth and their growing family came to the Rapid Bay district in 1856. Their daughter, Frances, had married James Gobell in 1846 and was probably already living in the district. George and his large family lived in this house for a number of years, but George subsequently (about 1885) built a bigger home on adjoining section 1535, which he also called Spring Grove, and the family moved there.
Benjamin Grove Williss (Georges son) lived for a time in the old house, but it was later rented to other families. George Williss died on 24 February 1895, aged 88 years. His wife Elizabeth died 13 April 1903. Both are buried in Bullaparinga cemetery.
This building is on private property. It cannot be easily seen from the road because it is obscured by roadside vegetation.
