Uniting Church, Delamere

38 Yoho Road, Delamere

This church, situated in a beautiful spot near Stockyards Creek, was originally the Glenburn Wesleyan chapel. Before the church was built services were held in the home of John Newbold at Bullaparinga, and later in a barn on the property of James Collins.

The land for the church was donated in 1857 by Joel Cole, who was an active member of the Church of England church, St James, but his wife Mary was a member of the Wesleyan church. The church was built in 1858 and completed by the beginning of 1859 for the cost of 150. In 1866 a stable was built for the preacher's horse, which was enlarged to 3 bays in 1898, and finally in 1925, when preachers no longer arrived by horse, it was extended and converted into a hall.

Joel and Mary Cole are both buried in Bullaparinga cemetery.
