Uniting Church and Cemetery

1680 Inman Valley Road

Land for a Bible Christian church was donated by Isaac Hurrell in 1870. There was already a Bible Christian church at Bald Hills, but that was demolished and the stones and other useful materials were used in the erection of the new church in the valley.

The church opened in 1871 and Serena Thorne, the well-known and highly regarded evangelical preacher and temperance advocate, preached to an over-flowing congregation. It is said that there was a violent thunderstorm on the day, and that some people attributed it to God's judgement for having employed a female preacher. The church was enlarged in 1907 and also in 1937.

The first burial in the attached cemetery was that of James Hurrell in July 1871. He was the 2 year old grandson of Isaac Hurrell. Services at the church ceased at the end of 2011, and the church was sold about 2021. This place is on private property.
