Uniting Church Yankalilla

121 Main South Rd

The Uniting Church at Yankalilla was originally the Bible Christian Church. The original Bible Christian Chapel, which was built in 1856, was next to Bungala House, between Bungala House and the mill. As the population of Yankalilla grew the original chapel was found to be too small and in 1878 land was bought from Thomas Willson and the present church was built. This position was convenient because the Bible Christian manse was already situated up the lane behind the church.

The cost of building the church was £620. The stone came from Myponga Beach and the Gorge, and the pews were made by George Roads. The first service was held in 1879, and the first marriage, celebrated in 1880, was that of Jessie Reid Smith of Brookside and William Hamilton Sampson of Myponga Beach. The porch was added in 1949. The hall next the church, Sanders Hall, was erected in 1932.
